Fundraising: Idol Competition

Idol

DelawareOnline.com reported that the Diamond State Chorus held a “Teen Idol” competition/concert/fundraiser.

A crowd of about 200 were entertained by Jessica Macey, 17, of Smyrna; Janey Covel, 15, of Middletown; Crystalia Hampton, 15, of Townsend; and Karine Sarkisian, 15, of Middletown. In between, the Sweet Adelines performed.

Jessica Macey described the process.

“My mom saw an ad in the paper and said, ‘Hey, Jess, maybe you wanna do this.’

“We set up an audition date, and it took two weeks for all the auditions to finish.”

The audience was allowed to vote on which girl was their favorite — Macey, a senior at Smyrna High School….

The four girls joined the Sweet Adelines in the show’s finale of “Fame.”

“This was the first time we had done anything like this,” said Pamela Nichols, director of the Diamond State Chorus.

“It couldn’t have turned out better. In addition to producing an interesting show for the public, we also were able to introduce high-school girls and their families to Sweet Adelines.”

As a fundraiser, this is a great way to build a paying audience at one of your concerts with people who may not have normally attended that will go to support their contestants.
