Fundraising: Recycle Cell Phones

The Livingstone College band and concert choir are looking for donations to fund their annual musical performance tour to Jamaica March 11-20. They’re not asking for checks, credit card numbers or cold, hard cash (although those donations would be gladly received!). Instead the music department is looking for old cell phones and inkjet printer cartridges.

The items won’t be melted down to create jet fuel for the aircraft that will carry the giddy songbirds and musicians to the Caribbean. Instead, they will be recycled by a southwestern company that specializes in assisting organizations in raising money while making it easy for the community to recycle waste.

According to Dr. Hope Davis, director of the concert choir, each cartridge will return about $.50 and each cell phone $1 to the department. The donations may be tax deductible.

The used items can be dropped in a receptacle outside Livingstone music department, located in Varick Auditorium, room 103, or given to any music department faculty member.
